Following a fire at the National Petroleum Refiners of South Africa last month, which disrupted jet fuel distribution and led to significant flight delays and cancellations, Minister Creecy and various stakeholders collaborated on a logistics plan to ensure the airport's fuel needs are met. OR Tambo International Airport consumes approximately 3.

The January 4th, 2025 fire caused a major disruption in the supply chain.Minister Creecy announced that key players in the fuels industry, including Sasol, Airports Company South Africa, and the Fuels Industry Association of South Africa, have implemented a logistics plan to transport jet fuel secured by the industry to OR Tambo International Airport. An additional 59 million liters of jet fuel have been introduced into the pipeline and are anticipated to arrive on Thursday. According to Minister Creecy, this substantial volume may allow for the removal of current restrictions on airlines and bring the fuel supply closer to normal operations
