OR Tambo International Airport in South Africa is struggling with operational challenges during the busy December travel period. A technical glitch in the airport's Border Management Authority (BMA) systems has caused significant delays and long queues for travelers.
The busiest airport in Africa, OR Tambo International, is facing operational challenges during the December holiday travel season. A technical issue affecting the airport's Border Management Services (BMA) systems caused long queues for travelers. Nearly 400,000 passengers are expected to use the airport in the next five days. This comes after a recent issue with the airport's plane refueling system.
ACSA, the airport's operator, says the BMA system problem will only be resolved next year when it's replaced. In the meantime, they are advising passengers to arrive at the airport three hours early for international flights and two hours early for domestic flights.
