Winfrey is worth US$3.4 billion, with most of it held in cash

The fresh batch of bad news from Weight Watchers lopped an additional US$39.2 million from the fortune of its biggest individual shareholder.Oprah Winfrey, who owns more than 8 per cent of Weight Watchers, saw the value of her stake drop to US$122.7 million after the wellness company forecast that 2019 profit will be well short of Wall Street estimates. The value of her stock has plunged by US$435.8 million since June 20, when the shares peaked at US$103.09.

8 billion last summer.Winfrey has stayed involved in the company, and she did the voiceover on a recent campaign. But she hasn’t been as front and centre in marketing materials as she once was. The company is going to change that: Chief Executive Officer Mindy Grossman noted that the celebrity will “play a central role” in an upcoming marketing campaign. Winfrey’s chief of staff recently joined Weight Watchers as Chief Business Development Officer, too.
