After exploring the concepts of time, identity, and free will in Tenet, Christopher Nolan is preparing for the release of a project unlike any other he has done so far: Oppenheimer, a biographical movie telling the story of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Nolan seems to have not taken it well, and even though he found his perfect Batman in Christian Bale, Hartnett saying “no” to playing the Caped Crusader led to him not being cast in The Prestige, where Bale was also cast in a lead role. Luckily, Hartnett and Nolan were able to leave the past behind and he was cast in Oppenheimer, but Hartnett is very aware of how his past choices affected his career for years.
Who Is Josh Hartnett Playing In Nolan’s Oppenheimer? Josh Hartnett plays Ernest Lawrence in Oppenheimer, who like most of the characters, is based on a real-life person. Lawrence was a nuclear physicist who in 1939 won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his invention of the cyclotron. Lawrence was also part of the Manhattan Project, working on uranium-isotope separation, and he was a close friend of Oppenheimer, so much so that he named his son Robert after him.
