The incidence of theft from the poor has become so acute in South Africa that children in the Eastern Cape and other impoverished areas are starving to death. This at a time when a third of the food produced in South Africa ends up in landfills while still in edible and nutritious condition.

April is Freedom Month in South Africa. We celebrate our liberation from the yoke of apartheid and colonialism. We, like the president, extol our Constitution as the best in the world and we fondly remember those long snaking queues at polling stations on 27 April 1994.

As we learn from the monthly reports of the State Capture Commission, our freedom as a nation has been blighted by a project hatched in the corridors of political power. State Capture is real in South Africa. Crooked politicians and their fellow travellers have attempted to hijack the state and bend it to their own nefarious purposes. They have relieved the country of between R1-trillion and R2-trillion – looted and spirited away by those involved in State Capture.
