What must Kate think of ‘Harry & Meghan’? The princess sustains a number of direct and veiled blows in the series.
Unsurprisingly, the Royal Family isn’t best pleased by “Harry & Meghan,” Meghan and Harry’s six-part Netflix documentary series, the second instalment of which dropped this morning with more barbs aimed directly at the palace.
For starters, let’s look to Kate and William’s just-released family Christmas card, showing the couple and their children relaxed, holding hands and smiling in jeans — a deliberate counterpoint to the description of them as a stuffy, formal pair who froze when Meghan, as she told it, dared to hug them on the first evening she met Kate, barefoot and in ripped jeans.
This response serves to reinforce a line from the docuseries that will live on to haunt the Royal Family: “So much of how it operates is what it looks like, rather than what it feels like.” Harry says this while describing the famously chilly Commonwealth Day service when Harry and Meghan sat behind William and Kate — an encounter that really felt as “cold” as it looked.
It’s telling that when the series does use clips of Kate, they’re ones of she and Meghan chatting and laughing, echoing Meghan’s “Kate’s a good person” comment from the Oprah interview. By contrast, Harry says it was “terrifying” when William was “shouting” at him when they were attempting to negotiate his royal exit.
