Opinion: We're building a diverse, inclusive workforce of the future right here in Downtown San Diego [Opinion]
, the main goals of which are to build a strong local talent pipeline, equip San Diego’s small businesses to compete globally and address the affordability crisis in our region so that more households can thrive. We strive toward these ambitious objectives through all our EDC programs, and with and through employers across the region, but we rarely find a partner able to help us work toward all three of these goals at once.
Enter UC San Diego Park & Market, a new community meeting space that’s so much more than just a place to gather. Park & Market will give a major push to our efforts, and the efforts of many others who are working to create a more inclusive, diverse regional economy, and build the workforce of the future.
Both a flexible, accessible space for events of every size and a platform for convening people and ideas that might never interact otherwise, Park & Market directly reflects our values of inclusion, collaboration and innovation. It’s as if the saying “We’re better together” were made into one physical building — and infused into the spirit of everything happening inside and out.
In a normal year, EDC hosts hundreds of meetings and events. As it becomes safe to gather again, we look forward to hosting many more of those at Park & Market. As a space, it will be an invaluable platform for activating San Diego entrepreneurs and small businesses through events such as our
