The Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overruling Roe v. Wade was an outrageous attack on basic human rights and the unweaving of the American freedoms enumerated in the Reconstruction Amendments. Abortion is health care. Choice is a right. Reproductive justice is an LGBTQ justice. Our fights are inexorably connected.

Sweeping criminalization and attacks like these start small and often under the guise of religious freedom — as though LGBTQ people are not people of faith. Religious freedom is not there to harm, persecute and imprison. Religious freedom is there to keep us free. Religious freedom is an LGBTQ issue. Abortion access is a religious freedom issue.
Each of us has a role in protecting democracy and preventing these attacks. Our elected officials and law enforcement agencies need to do more to protect our community, and corporate leaders must stop speaking out of both sides of their mouths. If your company funds anti-LGBTQ legislators, you are not welcome at Pride.
