Milloy: This should be the Green Party’s moment via thespec

leadership race officially opens this week. According to one media report, party members have made many suggestions about how to showcase candidates. Beyond the usual debates, some want those vying for the top job to participate in an open mic night or engage in on-line game competitions.Seriously, why doesn’t the Green Party simply talk about nothing else but the environment morning, noon, and night?.

More recently, the federal Greens expelled the Quebec Green Party leader due to pro-Russian Tweets about the war in the Ukraine. Although I found the Tweets offensive, I also wondered why in the middle of a summer dominated by news about the environment, a provincial Green Party leader was talking about something else.

Others argue that because every other party is talking about the environment the Greens need to expand their repertoire. Well, it may be true that other parties are talking about the environment, but targets are being missed and no other party seems brave enough to develop a vision for the future of Canada’s gigantic oil and gas industry in a world that seems poised to move away from fossil fuels.
