” : As an educator of over 25 years, a parent of public school students and a lifelong Texan, I just really have a bone to pick with this shenanigan. On Aug. 30, the Texas State Board of Education did not “punt the ball” as suggested by Tom Maynard, a Republican from Florence. The board failed in their duty to Texas’ students. The currently used social studies standards were adopted in 2010. That makes them 12 years old.
However, during last week’s meeting, a group of angry parents and even a conservative cell phone company hijacked the meeting to demand the new standards not be adopted. It seems like a group such as the state board would be well-acquainted with the usual occurrence of hearing from the displeased rather than the pleased.
