While students and people who work downtown benefit extensively from the LRT, there are thousands of people who rely on public transportation to get to jobs outside Ottawa’s core or to get to medical appointments, shop or simply get around day to day.claims aspirational goals that promiseTake Sally Thomas. Several weeks ago, as the LRT inquiry itself was taking place, she was stranded at Ottawa General Hospital for over two hours waiting for an accessible taxi that never showed up.
It’s not as though the municipality doesn’t recognize how hard it can be for some residents to get around. As part of its commitment towards equity and inclusion,that it believes it should support “everyone’s ability to work, participate in public life and meet daily needs without needing a car.”
