“It just shows we can do a lot of things when our pitchers put up zeroes,” Varsho said of the Jays, who had been no-hit by rookie starter Easton McGee through six innings. “Gausman threw the hell out of the ball, and it was great to see ... If he can do that a lot more, we’re going to win a lot of ball games.”
That appeared to expose a weakness for the Jays. If their season was set to go off the rails it would almost assuredly stem from the underwhelming performance of the starting five. Since then, the rotation has been fuelling their success, and an efficient bullpen has been there to back them up every step of the way.
