Opinion: Here's how a Carlsbad internship program is introducing high schoolers to local government [Opinion]
Nadia Razzaq, a senior at Sage Creek High School, said her internship made her see the community that she has lived in all her life in an entirely new context. She said this has not only prompted her to think more deeply about local conflicts but to also foster conversations about potential resolutions.
Other student interns stressed the significance of making your voice heard and building empathy. Carlsbad High School senior Ava Grace explained that it was pretty eye-opening to see how little the community interacts with local government, and that it felt good to be out there encouraging people to learn about and engage with their community and, most importantly, encouraging people to make their voices heard by voting.
