Opinion: Give San Diego's homeless campers a decent place to set up encampments [Opinion]

San Diego city officials call for ban on homeless encampments. ‘They cannot say no to leaving the sidewalk.’

The initiative should support camping on excess or underutilized publicly owned properties. This way services can be provided to a campsite and there are known locations available in appropriate areas of the city.

Instead, in the making we have a half-baked idea that leads to an enforcement nightmare. Make alternatives other than bricks and mortar available as part of the initiative.
