Opinion: Over the next few days we’ll be hearing the closing arguments from the front-runners. They’ll mostly be variations of asking, “Who do you trust?” And for a few more days, voters will get to weigh whose name best answers that question.

It sure looks like this is an election in which people are deciding between the “trust me” candidates, based on their personal credibility, and maybe based on the general direction they propose to lead the city. But among that agreement, there’s a divergence in the general direction proposed. Chow, Matlow and Hunter seem to generally agree that the city needs investment and new revenue, and that with those things it can solve a lot of problems through the intervention of government — borrowing Chow’s campaign phrase, you could call that the “caring” approach.
Once you’ve decided that, you are back to your estimation of the credibility of individual candidates, and maybe your guess at their electability, too.
