Jason Logan: Brooke Henderson is the popular choice when you’re discussing Canada’s great athletes
I think Henderson has a leg up on all of them. The Canadian best combines the two qualities most redeeming in any athlete — fiercely competitive and aggressive on the field of play, humble and kind off of it. She is beloved by fans around the world, which is why she was chosen as the primary player in theShe is a superstar in every sense of the word and she may just be coming into her prime.
Because perhaps the only thing holding Henderson back from being universally anointed as the LPGA Tour’s leading lady is more victories. Even with her many triumphs since turning professional in 2014, she’s yet to dominate for a prolonged stretch like some others have. It’s surprising, in fact, that Henderson hasn’t put together a season with more than two victories.
The competition on the women’s circuit is stiff, but Henderson can do that. She can win in bunches; she can claim majors consistently; and she can rise to the top of the world rankings. Combine such a run with the person she is away from the course and she’ll have no peer when it comes to popularity, a level to which not many Canadian athletes have ascended.
