In the latest episode of The Mommy Club, Ratile Mabitsela called fellow cast member Tshego Manche a slur. Mabitsela should hold herself to a higher standard, writes Kaunda Selisho.
People expect pageant queens to be prim and proper. In their quest for the crown, they are usually taken through rigorous training that dictates how they should look and how they conduct themselves.The Mommy Club"I hail from Tembisa, I am a typical beauty queen, and I love it," said Mabitsela in her episode two introduction.
After noting that the age gap between her and her husband tends to raise eyebrows, she then spoke about how society can be judgmental towards South African women who date Nigerian men. The beauty queen asked Manche what her experience had been in that regard. The scene cuts to Mabitsela in her solo diary session, where she explains her understanding of the term"jollofina", which she says refers to women who date or marry Nigerian men.
