None of us can deny that we would flee in search of a better life were we facing a real threat of persecution.
Minister, please understand that it may be over a decade before an asylum seeker and their family's refugee status within the Republic is confirmed. The Jesuit Refugee Service spoke to one of its employees—an asylum seeker himself and also a community health care worker who works with migrants within the community. extremely unfair decision- at the moment, I am seeing refugees and asylum seekers dying on a daily basis, and when there is no more treatment available, we need to tell them that they need to get ready to die, because nothing will be given to you, and they don’t have the means to get the treatment themselves.
With medication shortages, lack of healthcare professionals in the state system and medical xenophobia are just some of the difficulties facing those accessing government facilities, with private healthcare providing perpetually increasing fees, for a reduced amount of services funded. The Act almost exclusively discusses the financial structure of healthcare system without much consideration of quality of care, and has been met with many organisations and companies deeming the bill unconstitutional.
