Pets are allowed on public transit — not just dogs, but small birds, bunnies and cats — if they\u0027re in small, hand\u002Dheld cages or travel bags.
The petition, which had more than 1,200 signatures by mid-afternoon Friday, defines well-behaved dogs as ones that don’t annoy other passengers with barking, growling, licking and so on.
“TransLink’s pet policy allows pets on transit if they are in a fully enclosed hand-held carrier that can fit on their handler’s lap,” a company spokesman said by email Friday. “This can include enclosed backpacks and bags. It is reflective of pet policies in place at many other transit agencies in Canada and the U.S.”was reviewed, a “peer agency scan” found TransLink’s pet policies consistent with those in place in 19-of-25 other major cities in Canada and the U.S.
“Management recommends that the current policy be maintained, with efforts made to continue to monitor industry trends and public sentiment to determine if adjustments are needed into the future.”
