Online dating site, victim scammed for R3,4 millionPius Emokpe appeared before the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 6 May 2022 for fraud.
The accused was arrested on 4 May 2022 by the Northern Cape team of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation and Strand Tactical Response Team in Cape Town.The complainant was allegedly scammed by Emokpe after meeting him on an online dating site, where he claimed to be an Italian national who is based in Cape Town.
The accused frequently borrowed money from her, claiming that his marine company was experiencing financial difficulties. The complainant lost a total amount of R3,4 million. The accused appeared in court and his case was postponed to Wednesday, 18 May 2022 for a formal bail application.
