Star Wars predicted Din losing the Darksaber.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Darksaber choice made in The Mandalorian season 3 was controversial, but there's one earlier scene in Star Wars that predicted this. The ancient Mandalorian weapon known as the Darksaber made its live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 1 finale, when Moff Gideon used it to free himself from his crashed TIE Fighter.
Din's decision to hand over the Darksaber was controversial with viewers, who anticipated some sort of contest between Din Djarin and Bo-Katan; it was generally seen as anticlimactic. This is particularly true given an earlier scene in The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 had seemed to indicate Din Djarin wanted to hold on to it. Din Djarin's decision was, however, foreshadowed in that earlier Disney+ TV show.
Din Wounded Himself With The Darksaber’s Burden As a Mandalorian warrior, Din Djarin has trained with many different weapons, and he typically handles them with skill - even figuring out how to take advantage of weapons he's never had to use before. Surprisingly, though, The Book of Boba Fett saw him inflict a serious injury on himself with the Darksaber. It was the weight of the Darksaber that caused this injury, and it acts as more than a display of Din struggling to use it.
Viewed retrospectively, Din's injury in The Book of Boba Fett is a warning of what could have happened to Din and his fellow Mandalorians if he tried to take the burden of the Darksaber by himself. He knew he couldn't do it, and even when he passed it on, he still knew the burden of it was too much for just one person. Din understood at that moment, then, why the passing of the Darksaber has brought destruction to Mandalore for so long.
