One person was injured when a package exploded after being opened at Boston's Northeastern University on Tuesday, according to police and the school.
The package was mailed to Holmes Hall on campus around 7 p.m., and detonated shortly thereafter when a staff member opened it, the university said, according to NBC10 Boston. A reporter with the outlet said that the package detonated 15 minutes after delivery, around 7:15 p.m.. Boston Emergency services tweeted at 7:56 p.m. that they had taken one person to the hospital. Another suspicious package was reported to police near the Museum of Fine Arts, but was found to just be an empty suitcase.

The Boston Police bomb squad and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force in investigating the incident. Authorities are looking for a suspect and official said they have found a note, an NBC News reporter tweeted. The explosion seemed to be small, as a student from Holmes Hall told NBC10 Boston that he and his fellow students never heard anything that sounded like an explosion and were surprised by the arrival of first responders.Holmes Hall is home to several academic departments,"including Earth and Environmental Sciences, Communication Studies and Human Services," according to Northeastern University. Students interviewed by NBC 10 Boston also indicated that it contained dorm rooms as well.
