Toronto’s front four is one of the most physical units and one of the leading worries for the league’s quarterbacks.
“We told our guys it’s pretty much open competition every week,” Argos head coach Ryan Dinwiddie said. “We’ve got some guys who are great players who will be on the one-game layoff as healthy scratches. Brinkman had a good Week 1 and we felt like he and Dewayne were the combination we wanted for last week, but Oakman should be back .”
Hendrix, a humble giant, had two tackles and a sack in his first game of the season last week. He had 33 solo tackles and a sack in 17 games last season. With mostly practice roster stints with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, St. Louis Rams, and Pittsburgh Steelers, Hendrix knows he must deliver on the promise he showed at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a highly recruited down lineman.
“I’d say the main thing being in the NFL and going from team to team, is trying to fit into the system, that’s the hardest part, do what is being asked of you,” Hendrix said. “But, at the same time, I’m grateful for those opportunities because I learned so much from the NFL. I just tried to apply it when I came here, and I also try to share it with younger players too.”
Hendrix and the Argos are looking forward to Monday’s test against the Lions, who lead the CFL with an average of just seven points allowed through three games. The Lions offence hasn’t allowed a sack, while the Argos have allowed just one.
