And that right there — a top-two hit catapulting the musician into a spot singing the National Anthem before a major sporting event — would be a pretty good legacy for a singer and a song. Any casual hockey fan knows “Gloria” has become the soundtrack of the spring thanks to the Blues, who adopted the song as their victory anthem back when the team was trying to climb back into the NHL playoff race shortly after the new year.
This is not the first time “Gloria” has taken on a life of its own in pop culture. Less than a year-and-a-half ago,ranked the top usages of “Gloria” in an article titled “10 Iconic Times The ‘Gloria’ Song Was Used In Movies & TV That Prove The Tune Will Literally Never Get Old.” “Gloria” has received 15 more postgame spins in the playoffs thanks to the Blues, who dispatched of the Winnipeg Jets in six games, the Dallas Stars in seven games and the San Jose Sharks in six games to reach the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1970. St. Louis trailed the Boston Bruins 1-0 and 2-1 but has won the last two games to put itself in position to clinch the first Cup in franchise history tonight at Enterprise Center.
