A Chesterton man is dead and another man is in custody after a road rage incident early Wednesday morning on Interstate 94.
Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Glen Fifield said in a release Wednesday that at around 4 a.m. On March 6, a man called ISP and said he’d been involved in a road rage on westbound I-80/94. The caller stopped his vehicle on Interstate 65 near 61st Avenue, approximately 2 miles south. As the caller was on with dispatch, others called in a single-vehicle crash at the 12.8-mile marker in Lake Station, Fifield said.
Troopers who arrived at the crash scene attempted to give the victim first aid but saw that he had injuries consistent with a gunshot wound, Fifield said. The man, who was the only person in the vehicle, died as a result, he said.The caller later told troopers who responded to him what happened, and he was taken into custody at the Lake County Jail on a probable cause hold, Fifield said.
