One person taken to hospital after Sunday morning crash near Cobble Hill
One person is dead and another was taken to hospital after a single-vehicle crash Sunday morning that closed the Trans Canada Highway for about five hours in both directions between Cobble Hill and Mill Bay.RCMP said the passenger of the vehicle suffered fatal injuries and the driver was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.
Staff Sgt. Kris Clark, senior media relations officer with the B.C. RCMP, said the vehicle crashed into a barrier, but provided no other details as the investigation continues. The highway was closed from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. between Cobble Hill and Fisher roads, a 4.2-kilometre stretch; the busy highway has since been opened.
Detours were made available — southbound via Cobble Hill Road, and northbound via Hutchinson Road East — as Shawnigan Lake RCMP, paramedics and crash investigators worked the scene.
