Oakland firefighters quickly knocked down a one-alarm fire at a commercial building on International Boulevard at 90th Avenue just before noon on Tuesday.
Upon arrival, crews identified that the building had been red-tagged by the city’s building department, meaning no one should enter or occupy the structure under any circumstance due to hazardous conditions.
“The quick and coordinated response by the 25 firefighters contained a fast-moving fire to the rear of two impacted structures, preventing hundreds of thousands of dollars in property loss,” said Oakland Fire Department spokesperson Michael Hunt.“Their aggressive response also prevented the fire from extending to a third, even larger building on that block which had also previously been red-tagged by the city due to hazardous conditions following a previous fire,” Hunt said.
