Ari Staprans Leff, aka lauvsongs, opens up about his debut album, 'How I'm Feeling', world tour, and why he never expected to ascend the ranks of pop-stardom quite like this.
After graduating in 2016, Leff had planned to move to Los Angeles to be a songwriter and producer. "I didn't know it at the time, but Lauv was the outlet for me to be actually be myself while I was trying to write songs that I thought other people would want to sing," he says.
It’s easy to see how this raw openness would appeal to a generation of fans who have come to expect authenticity and approachability from the stars they adore. But the pressure Leff put on himself to maintain it all became stifling. "I think part of what made me so sad was feeling like I trapped myself in this bubble where I can only be this one-dimensional person, because that's what I thought people expected of me.
The impact of this redirection becomes clear, as the conversation turns to what his life looks like these days. He loves spending time at his Studio City home. He admits that he orders breakfast and coffee every morning on Postmates before writing music and playing with his dog . In true L.A. fashion, he extols the benefits of starting his morning with a meditation session on his balcony, which overlooks the Hills.
