However Wales is the first UK nation to close a business sector in response to the Omicron wave.
Chief executive Mike Kill said there was no evidence to show nightclubs caused more transmission of the virus than other settings."We've supported the public health strategy in Wales for almost two years, causing closures and debts. "Isn't there a greater concern that people who would normally socialise on New Year's Eve will now displace to other unregulated settings without those controls?"The announcement also sparked concern with Prof Simon Williams, a behavioural scientist at Swansea University.
But Ian Price, CBI Wales director, said: "As Omicron cases continue to rise it's only right the government prioritises public health, but fresh restrictions are a big setback for businesses, particularly for those in hospitality.
