General Ahmed Awad Ibn Auf said a military council would take control of Sudan for two years after which elections will be held.
PRETORIA - Sudan's military says it is holding Omar al-Bashir under arrest in a safe place after his ousting as president.
The announcement came from General Ahmed Awad Ibn Auf, who was recently appointed defence minister by al-Bashir. Ibn Auf said a military council would take control of Sudan for two years after which elections would be held. This follows months of protests that escalated at the weekend when demonstrators began a sit-in outside the defence ministry compound in central Khartoum.
Ibn Auf said after a long examination of the state's affairs and the corruption within it, it was evident that the poor are poorer and the rich are still rich and there is no equality.
