In the then-demonstration sport of curling, Canada’s Linda Moore rink won the gold medal in the women’s event. Calgary’s Ed Lukowich rink won bronze on the men’s side. Canada’s Gaetan Boucher — a four-time Olympic medallist from previous Games — skated his last Olympic speedskating race, placing ninth.

Some spectators had used the flame in one of the Olympic site’s smaller cauldrons to roast hot dogs. And earlier in the week, a few volunteers had used the flame at the Nakiska site to toast marshmallows.
