Olympic javelin throw silver medalist Jo-Ane du Plessis is adjusting to a new environment in Cape Town, while also setting her sights on breaking the 65-meter barrier in 2025.

Olympic javelin throw silver medalist Jo-Ane du Plessis (formerly Van Dyk) is setting her sights on a new personal best this year. After relocating to Cape Town with her husband Johan du Plessis in October, Du Plessis is adapting to new training facilities and finding her rhythm in her new environment. While she acknowledges the challenges of adjusting to a fresh location, she's confident in her progress and eager to hit the ground running for the 2025 season.

Du Plessis had a breakthrough season in 2023, achieving a personal best of 64.22 meters at the Olympic Games in Paris. Her coach, Terseus Liebenberg, remains based in Potchefstroom, but they are implementing a system where Du Plessis spends one week a month training in Potch, and Liebenberg joins her in Cape Town for a week each month. This arrangement, she believes, will allow for a seamless transition and effective training despite the distance.Looking ahead, Du Plessis aims to surpass the 65-meter mark this year. While acknowledging the formidable national record of 69.35 meters held by Sunette Viljoen, she considers it a long-term aspiration. At 27 years old and approaching her prime, Du Plessis remains optimistic about her potential and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead in her athletic career
