Around 10 million State Pensioners are set to miss out on up to £300 heating bill help this winter.
Nearly one million pensioners are being urged to check if they are eligible for a £3,900 income top-up which provides access to Winter Fuel Payments from the Department for Work and Pensions . On Monday, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced that the annual allowance to help cover the costs of winter heating bills will no longer be paid universally to all State Pension ers, but will instead only be issued to those on means-tested benefits such as Pension Credit.
The Retirement Savings Director at Standard Life, part of Phoenix Group, continued: “Many people mistakenly believe that if they have some savings or their own home they won’t be entitled to Pension Credit, with others worried about a perceived stigma attached to claiming. Alternatively, pensioners can contact the Pension Credit helpline directly to make a claim on 0800 99 1234 - lines are open 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.Below is an overview of the benefit including who should check eligibility, how to go about it and how much you could get.
