Haven’t been to B.C.’s wine country in a while? Here are 12 wineries you can add to your next wine tour.
British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley never ceases to amaze. Every year, there are new restaurants, new sites and, of course, new wineries to visit.
• Little Engine Wines opened in 2016, so it’s not new-new either, but it’s been winning awards and making fans with its sleek tasting room and solid wines. Try the Chardonnay when you’re there. • There’s been plenty of buzz around Phantom Creek Estates, which is scheduled to open this spring. With a 7,339-square metre winery building and a two-storey hospitality centre, it’s big. Really big. And with legendary French wine consultant Olivier Humbrecht helping out with the wines, there’s lots of talk about the quality, too.
• Roche Wine started as a virtual winery in 2012, meaning that Dylan and Penelope Roche made their wines by renting space in existing wineries. But in 2017, they opened their own space. Penelope grew up in a winemaking family in Bordeaux, where her family owned Chateau Les Carmes in Haut-Brion. • Time Winery is the brainchild of legendary Canadian wine guru Harry McWatters, who started Sumac Ridge Estate Winery and was one of the creators of the VQA standards for wine quality in Canada. Time is his latest project, an urban winery located in downtown Penticton, a stone’s throw from the city’s best hotels. The wines are excellent, but so is the space, a cool modern place to eat, drink and hang out on a warm summer night.
