Ohio State's kicking competition is still undecided

for the jack position, but do they really need it?“You got two guys that can get it done,” special teams coordinator Parker Fleming said. “We’re just trying to make sure we finalize it the right way and have the best guy going when it’s time to kick the ball.”

Fielding is entering his second season at Ohio State and will attempt to be the starting kicker on both kickoffs and field goals. He has not attempted a field goal at Ohio State, but had 91% of his kickoffs go for touchbacks last season. Lewis, a former USC transfer, is also entering his second season with the program. All-time in college, he is 26-35 on field goals and 46 of 47 on extra points. In 2021 with USC, he made 77.3% of his kicks. There isn’t a decision yet on if one kicker would handle both kickoff and regular kicking duties, or if they’d ben split between the two of them. That’s a decision that Fleming has to make over the next few days and weeks.

With that said, there isn’t a timeline for when he wants to make a decision. If it has to go into the season, then so be it. But with the season nearing, one of the more important starting positions on the roster is still up for grabs.
