Backup nickel safety Cam Martinez is out against Notre Dame but all other players expected to play a significant role for Ohio State in 2023 are available.
Safety Cam Martinez, who has seen rotational duty at nickel for Ohio State this season, will be the only regular contributor unavailable to the team when it faces Notre Dame on Saturday.
Without Martinez, Ohio State’s defense will rely more heavily upon sophomore starter Sonny Styles. Given his background as one of the Buckeyes' top cornerbacks, Jordan Hancock could also see time at the position as a purer coverage option. Backup tight end Joe Royer missed last week for an undisclosed reason but makes his return against Notre Dame in Week 4. While he saw a handful of meaningful reps in the first two games for Ohio State this year, playing 39 combined snaps, Royer is still looking for his first reception in 2023.
