The team announced Monday that the junior receiver, who has played only three games this season due to a hamstring injury, will shut down to rehab the injury in preparation for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Smith-Njigba opened the 2021 season as the third-most renowned OSU receiver behind Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. Both went on to become first-round NFL Draft picks. With 145 yards and two touchdowns in the second game of the season against Oregon, though, Smith-Njigba proved he could be a major weapon for then-new starting quarterback C.J. Stroud in the slot.

Beginning with 15 receptions and 240 yards against Nebraska in Wilson’s absence, Smith-Njigba closed his sophomore season with an historic run. He totaled 60 receptions for 958 yards and six touchdowns in the span. That included a record-setting 15-catch, 347-yard, three-touchdown performance in a Rose Bowl victory over Utah. It was the best Smith-Njigba had ever been, and the most productive game ever for a Buckeye receiver. If you or a loved one has questions and needs to talk to a professional about gambling, call the Ohio Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-589-9966 or the National Council on Program Gambling Helpline at 1-800-522-4700.
