Ohioans who are 70 or older, make up to $70,000 per year and have owned their home for 10 years would have their property taxes frozen, under new bipartisan legislation.
State Reps. Thomas Hall and Dani Isaacsohn speak at a Tuesday news conference announcing legislation that would freeze property taxes for Ohioans who are age 70 or older, make $70,000 or less, and have owned their home for at least 10 years. COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohioans who are 70 or older, make up to $70,000 per year and have owned their home for at least 10 years would have their property taxes frozen under new bipartisan legislation in the Ohio House.
The sponsors of the “70 under 70″ bill, which would come on top of the state’s homestead exemption and other tax breaks for older Ohioans, would freeze both property tax rates for those Ohioans and require that local governments tax their property at the same assessed value, even if their home’s assessed value goes up.
