Ohio authorities looking into dozens of potential unemployment fraud cases by state workers

Unemployment fraud committed from within Ohio's unemployment office itself may be far more widespread than previously thought.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohio authorities are looking into whether dozens of people who worked for the state’s unemployment office during the coronavirus pandemic illegally helped approve fraudulent claims, the state’s top internal investigator said Thursday.

Ohio Inspector General Randall Meyer, in an interview, said his office currently has at least a dozen investigations open into potential fraud by employees or contractors with the state’s unemployment office.
