La Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA) discutió el viernes el riesgo que corre la democracia en Guatemala por los insistentes intentos de desconocer los resultados electorales y los ataques judiciales al Movimiento Semilla, el partido que llevó a la presidencia a Bernardo Arévalo.
Durante una sesión extraordinaria del Consejo Permanente en su sede en Washington, el jefe de la misión de observadores de la OEA en Guatemala dijo que impedir la toma de posesión rompería el ordenamiento constitucional y la voluntad ciudadana.
El funcionario agregó que, según diversos actores, todas las acciones parecen ir encaminadas a evitar la toma de posesión del nuevo presidente y su vicepresidenta Karin Herrera, prevista para enero. “El comportamiento de las autoridades de persecución penal ha sido selectivo, desproporcionado y a todas luces ajustado a los tiempos políticos. Dadas las condiciones documentadas, es imposible que esta Misión de Observación Electoral llegue a otra conclusión que en este caso muy específico se está utilizando de forma política a los mecanismos y las herramientas de la justicia guatemalteca” contra Semilla, dijo Loizaga.
