In a preview of tomorrow's Obi-Wan 2, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn embark on a mission to a planet afflicted by an unnatural darkness - a place where even lightsabers grow dim.
In a new preview for Star Wars' new Obi-Wan series, the titular Jedi master looks back on one of his darkest missions with Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Trained by one of the greatest Jedi in the prequel trilogy era, this new chapter from Kenobi's past will offer a new exploration into his and Qui-Gon's relationship as master and apprentice. However, this new preview also sets up one of Obi-Wan's first encounters with true darkness .
Framed by Kenobi writing in his journals during his exile on Tatooine protecting young Luke Skywalker, each issue of Obi-Wan will look at a different era of the Jedi's life that's never been seen before in the Star Wars timeline. Case in point, the first issue saw Obi-Wan reflecting on his earliest days in the Jedi Temple as a youngling. Now, Obi-Wan #2 will jump forward with Obi-Wan having been chosen by Qui-Gon Jinn to become his Jedi apprentice.
OBI-WAN #2- DARK SIDE OF THE MOONQui-Gon and Obi-Wan answer the distress call of an outpost on the edge of the galaxy. What's the secret behind the devastation wrought upon the terrifying moon base? Will whatever plunged it into darkness pull a Padawan off his enlightened path? While the present danger in the preview may be literal darkness, the synopsis seems to indicate that whatever Qui-Gon and his apprentice will face on the dark moon may threaten to pull Kenobi off his path to become a full Jedi Knight. As such, Kenobi being unsure of his place in the Force would certainly be an exciting chapter of his life to see.
At any rate, this new preview certainly suggests that the fear of the dark will be equally external and internal for Kenobi. While Obi-Wan has encountered plenty of darkness across the span of his Jedi career, seeing one of his first major experiences in the Star Wars canon should prove to be very exciting. The full Obi-Wan #2 hits comic book store shelves on June 29th.
