Michelle and Barack Obama energise Democrats with speeches seen as critical to helping the party unite behind Harris
Barack Obama arrives onstage after his wife and Michelle Obama introduced him on the second day of the Democratic National Convention CHICAGO — For a member of America’s Democratic Party, it’s hard to think of anything better than having your bid for the presidency being blessed by one of the Obamas.
There were reports Michelle Obama would not be appearing at the convention, amid claims of one of her close friends had fallen out of favour with the Biden family. Indeed, her name was only added to the list of speakers a few days ago. Biden, said Obama, had been “selfless enough to do the rarest thing there is in politics: putting his own ambition aside for the sake of the country”.
For all the energy people may have been feeling in the convention hall, Obama pointed out the contest would in November likely be very close.
