OAKLAND — A Bay Area man arrested in connection with a Dec. 24 homicide has been charged with illegal gun possession, but prosecutors concluded the man he killed had pulled out a weapon first, court records show.
Craig Edmonds-Williams, 40, has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He did not enter a plea at his most recent Feb. 15 court hearing, and is out of custody while the charge is pending, records show.shot and killed 33-year-old Bobby Hale at a gas station at 102nd Avenue and International Boulevard. But police determined that Hale was assaulting Edmonds-Williams’ female friend, and that Hale pulled out a firearm and pointed it at Edmonds-Williams first, according to court records.
Police say video surveillance footage shows Edmonds-Williams retreat and return fire with his own pistol, before getting into the woman’s Hyundai and driving off. Police say they identified Edmonds-Williams from the footage. He was arrested Jan. 31 in San Francisco, court records show. Edmonds-Williams has prior felony convictions, including a 2015 conviction of pimping a minor in Santa Clara County, and a 2011 robbery conviction in Alameda County, that forbid him from possessing guns.
