All 25 candidates were encouraged to take the oath of citizenship in both English and French in the stadium and to sing the national anthem with their fellow Canadians. After two and a half years doing his master’s, da Costa moved to Kingston for work, and he eventually applied for permanent residency in 2018.
Even with long processing times for citizenship, people are still applying and waiting for the opportunity to become Canadian.
