I’ve been writing about video games, television and movies for Forbes for over 10 years, and you may have seen my reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. I cover all manner of console and PC games, but if it’s about looting or shooting, I’m definitely there. If I’m watching something, it’s usually science fiction, horror or superheroic.

as we head toward the weekend, and this one has a special place in my heart for its topic, given where I work. That may be a clue to begin with, but I will dive into what exactly that means once we get to the hints section below. The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. It’s in beta for now, which means it’ll only stick around if enough people play it every day.

There’s a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and you’ll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue. You’ll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

“Some themes are fill-in-the-blank phrases. They may also be steps in a process, items that all belong to the same category, synonyms or homophones,” The New York Times notes. “Just as she varies the difficulty of Wordle puzzles within a week, Bennett plans to throw Strands solvers curveballs every once in a while.”Scroll slow. The main hint for the puzzle today will be below, but I will think of a second one to help you along a little further.

I did get a hint to get started, and it gave me TIME, so I pretty quickly realized the “issue” part of the hint. The hint by itself was sort of perplexing but once you get rolling you can’t stop. MAGAZINES was going to be the obvious spangram, as I guess “issues” could be newspapers, but TIME made it clear that wasn’t going to happen. SEVENTEEN was a bit of a warbling path to find, even if I could see all the letters were in there somewhere.
