NYPD searching for man who struck R train riders with wooden plank
Police said Thursday they're searching for a suspect who hit multiple commuters with a piece of wood from a moving Queens subway, sending two women to the hospital.
In the first incident, the suspect struck a 59-year-old woman in the throat as she waited on the southbound R train platform at the Grand Avenue station at around 12:30 p.m. The suspect stayed on the train as it left the station, while first responders took the woman to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst in stable condition.
About two minutes after that, the suspect hit a 56-year-old woman in the head with a piece of wood as she waited on the southbound platform at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue station. First responders also transported her to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was in stable condition and received stitches for lacerations.
