Nuclear energy plans stall as government reopens public consultation
This decision was made in response to concerns about the transparency of the process and the need for public participation, announced the withdrawal of a January Government Gazette that outlined the procurement of 2 500 MW of nuclear power.
During this morning's press briefing, Ramokgopa reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, particularly in relation to the nuclear build programme and the procurement of new generation capacity. He emphasised that previous energy initiatives suffered from a lack of public trust due to perceived secrecy, a mistake the current administration aims to avoid.
