His appointment was not met with much fanfare as a faction of supporters questioned whether or not he was the right man for the job – given his underwhelming stint as Bafana Bafana coach. “I think it has happened to me ever since I started coaching 25 years ago as an amateur coach, having won the league, there will always be people who have their opinions in terms of your approach, how you do things, the type of players you choose,” he told journalists at the launch of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership at Multichoice City in Randburg.
