The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Mossel Bay duty team responded to an activation call after Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue Services requested assistance to evacuate a large group of stranded employees due to severe weather conditions.
A group of local employees from a nearby company were stranded on a road cut off by swollen flooding conditions at the Geelbek Vlei River, near Brandwacht, on Saturday afternoon.Upon activation, an NSRI rescue vehicle towing a JetRib and volunteer vehicles with a pencil duck were dispatched alongside Eden Lifesaving, who also carried a pencil duck rescue craft, and SAPS Water Policing and Dive Services, who used their police boat.

Find car listingsThe group of 83 adults, secured into life jackets and assisted by the four rescue crafts, were ferried across the river without incident, where they were then able to get home using their arranged transports.
A collaborative operation with WCG Health EMS, Eden Lifesaving, Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue Services, EDR, DRM, SAPS, SAPS Sea Borderline Control and SAPS Water Policing and Dive Services led to a swift response with no injuries sustained.
