Writing for the Daily Record, former SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford says John Swinney can lead a minority government.
Cometh the hour, cometh the person. I am in no doubt that the best interests of the SNP and indeed of Scotland are best served by John Swinney becoming SNP leader and First Minister of Scotland.
These are challenging times, many folk are struggling with the cost of living crisis, they want public services that work. John Swinney has given a lifetime to public service and has excelled in Government not least as finance minister and deputy first minister. He is a party man, that there is no doubt, much loved I would say across the SNP, but equally respected across the political divide.
The SNP faces being a minority Government until the next Scottish election in the spring of 2026. We need to lead, to inspire and demonstrate we are on the side of the people of Scotland.
